CORDLESS DRILL

Collaborative Project | Maya Mid-Poly Modeling

The Project

Produced as a portfolio piece for Lav Games, this cordless drill model demonstrates the technical standards required for handheld game assets. The objective was to execute a mid-poly workflow that balances ergonomic complexity with technical optimization for close-up interaction within real-time engines.

The Solution

Djordje executed the complete modeling phase in Autodesk Maya, delivering a mid-poly mesh of approximately 100,000 triangles. The focus was on capturing the surfaces of the housing, rubberized grips, and mechanical components to ensure clean silhouettes and sharp edges. This project followed a collaborative pipeline: while Djordje handled the modeling phase, the UV unwrapping, baking, and PBR texturing were performed by James Ray Cock, who also executed the final rendering in Unreal Engine 5.

Key Features

  • Mid-Poly Geometry: A 100k-triangle mesh engineered for clean shading and silhouette definition under dynamic lighting.
  • Surface Modeling: Execution of complex handheld surfaces, including ventilation ports, trigger mechanisms, and rubber overmolds.
  • Component Accuracy: Detailed representation of industrial parts, including plastic casings, metallic chucks, and rubberized textures.
  • Engine Optimization: Topology management designed for high-detail presentation within the Unreal Engine 5 ecosystem.
  • Collaborative Pipeline: Integration of the primary modeling phase into the texturing and look-dev workflow handled by James Ray Cock.
