E-BICYCLE
Professional Project | Luxury E-Mobility & Form Study
The Project
Originally commissioned for a premium startup, this electric bicycle was developed through a close collaboration between a designer and a mechanical engineer. The project was built around strict technical hardpoints: a rear hub motor, disc brakes, and a rear shock absorber integrated inside the frame.
The goal was to create a distinctive visual identity for a luxury vehicle with an expected retail price exceeding 10,000 euros. Since the frame is primarily carbon fiber, the design emphasizes both advanced composite craftsmanship and structural integrity.
The Process
Development began with extensive thumbnail sketches to explore possible side-view architectures. After evaluating several directions—including C-shape and reversed C-shape frames—a “C-shape” silhouette was chosen as the core design language. This structural signature differentiates the bike from traditional frames while providing a continuous flow of surfaces to house the battery and suspension.
To align the aesthetics with the pre-set engineering hardpoints, the process was streamlined using a quick 3D mockup as an underlay for Photoshop rendering. This allowed for rapid validation of the form and ergonomics before moving into high-fidelity modeling and the integration of off-the-shelf components.
Technical Highlights
- Carbon Fiber Monocoque: A high-rigidity frame architecture designed for a superior strength-to-weight ratio.
- Integrated Component Packaging: Strategic housing of the battery and rear suspension system within the frame’s internal volume.
- Smart Integration: Mobile app connectivity for real-time information such as speed, range, and parking location.
- Personalization: Engineered to support a wide array of premium color and material finishes.
Note: This project is currently in the early development stage, with further refinements planned to optimize seat ergonomics and functional details.
